Christmas gets the attention, but a home can be festive all year. A permanent lighting system lets you mark every occasion on the same roofline: orange and purple for Halloween, warm amber for Thanksgiving, red and white for Valentine’s Day, green for St. Patrick’s Day, pastels in spring and red, white and blue for the Fourth of July. There is nothing to hang and nothing to put away between holidays.

For homeowners who used to skip everything but December because the setup was too much work, that changes the equation. When changing the display takes ten seconds in an app, you actually do it.

Colors, patterns and presets

Each light combines red, green, blue and white diodes and can show over 16 million colors. The app comes with 256 built-in presets, many of them holiday themed, so you can pick a look and be done. If you want something personal, the custom builder lets you design your own scene and save it. Add motion, like a slow chase along the eaves or a gentle color fade, or keep it still and simple.

You can also play different scenes on different parts of the house. A controller supports up to 8 zones, which means the garage can glow orange while the front gables run a pumpkin pattern. Up to four controllers can be linked on one account for larger homes.

Set it once, let the calendar do the work

Scheduling is where permanent lighting earns its keep. Recurring schedules, sunrise and sunset timers and scheduling in advance let you set a theme months ahead. Queue up the Fourth of July in June and Halloween in September, and the house changes on its own. If you would rather have control in the moment, voice commands work through Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri and Control4, and you can type or speak a request such as asking for red lights.

Entertaining? Music sync uses your phone’s microphone so the lights react to sound in real time, which is a fun touch for a party or a family watch night. Geofencing can respond automatically as you arrive or leave. The app is free, with no subscription, and every available feature is included.

What it takes to get started

We start with a conversation about your home and the look you want. From there we design the layout, quote the job and schedule a single-visit installation, which typically takes about 8 to 10 hours. Before we leave, we walk you through the app so you can start changing colors that night.
